The practice was established in 1993. Completed projects range from small commercial developments & office fit-outs through to new build houses and many residential refurbishments and extensions, many of which have been published in national publications and some featured on television. Based for many years on the Hertfordshire / Essex border, Alastair has now relocated to the Isle of Arran in south-west Scotland from where he continues to practice.
Working in close collaboration with the client and a team of colleagues and consultants, the requirements of the client’s brief are analysed and interpreted to create a sympathetic and cost effective contemporary solution which reflects the needs and desires of the end users. Form and materials respond to the immediate environment - the direction of the sun, prevailing winds, views, are integral to any design.
Ecologically, design proposals aim to be environmentally responsive and responsible. By leaning toward a low tech simplicity, a complex high maintenance, high cost approach is avoided. Spaces are designed to allow environmental control to be at the hand of the user. A considered approach to the selection of materials is made with emphasis on their performance and sustainability. The longer term is considered as well as the immediate; investigating what might be as well as what will be. Flexibility of use and for change over time is always considered.
The common denominator to all projects is a commitment to quality contemporary design.
