Earls Court

A typical terraced town house had previously had the basement separated off as a separate flat. As the family occupying the main house grew, space became short and so the basement was reintegrated in to the house.

A double height kitchen connects with a sitting area and study gallery at entrance level and with a garden room incorporating a new stair and finally with the dining room in the basement. In contrast to the cool concrete worksurface and floors, the basement also contains a ‘secret’ loo lined with walnut and gold leaf.
